- This is a good book! It's more of a high level overview/reference
- than a straight tutorial, though.
-
- : There's also a book called Schildt's Windows95 Programming in C and
- : C++ (ISBN 0-07-882081-2) that's good but not great.
-
- It's a very basic book, aimed entirely at C programming in Windows 95.
- It's for beginners, and doesn't cover a lot of heavyweight topics.
- It's very lucid, though, and complements Petzold well. Schildt goes
- into detail, going over easy stuff slowly, and gives you a lot of
- canned code to swipe, where Petzold goes rapidly and gives you more
- complicated examples.
-
- Schildt has a new book called Advanced Windows 95 Programming in C and
- C++ (although again it's all C and no C++). The explanation of help
- files in this book is great!
-
- Hopefully the next book in the series will be Really Advanced WPiC/C++,
- which will go into OLE. Maybe the Herbmeister can explain OLE...
- Inside OLE is too dense, and Petzold's explanation is good, but I still
- don't quite "get" it.
-
- Unfortunately, because of Borland's slowness to get W95 support into
- their compiler, there's NO book which covers programming W95 in Borland
- C++, any version. I've read several programming books, most of which
- use Vicual C++ 2.something and the W95 SDK! Petzold's book is so late
- that it actually uses VC++ 4.whatever, but the material in it is pretty
- generic and doesn't get compiler specific much.
-
- By this summer, I expect a rash of books on Programming W95 With
- Borland C++...
